Here’s My Disclaimer
My Attempt at an FTC-Mandated Disclaimer:
As of Dec. 1, 2009, the new FTC regs about bloggers went into effect, with the goal of helping you folks get informed about how bloggers may be getting free stuff and earning commissions for products recommended.
I am happy to comply, since I certainly have zero intent to mislead anyone. And, I appreciate your support of my recommendations, and your feedback, which I pass back to the merchants who value your opinions.
Now the tough part is that I’ve just launched in March. 2010, so I'm not sure yet what of all that will happen here. And the rules are new, and sort of confusing, and no one’s exactly sure how to comply, including me.
The good news is that they haven’t asked me to be transparent about my age or weight, so everything else I’m willing to share with you.
Here’s what I can tell you now:
-
Grandgifting is a business, and my goal is to earn money, hopefully in exchange for value. This is because I need to sleep in a home, eat food, and wear clothes. And buy lots of stuff for my GrandKids.
I could happily sleep outdoors, grow the food, and keep wearing what I have now. But buying presents for the grandkids appears to be non-negotiable, so I need to continue earning money. I like doing that in the most ethical giving way possible, with and for good people.
-
Before this, I’ve been in B2B‘sales/bizdev’ for a couple of decades, which means that I’ve worked with companies that have products/services that are high value but need exposure to new markets, My job has been to open opportunities for new revenue for clients, for which they were ecstatic to pay me a commission portion. As you know, that’s how it works.
-
Grandgifting is a B2C - Business-to-Consumer pipeline, where I find and work with merchants who have high value products/services and interest in reaching you folks, the BoomerGen of Grandparents.
They will sometimes give me free stuff to review which I plan to mention to you, and sometimes I’ll have affiliate commission arrangements so that when you buy their stuff on my recommendation by clicking through a link I give you, they are also ecstatic for the new business opportunity, and pay me a commission.
So in my commercial world-view, folks that make cool stuff are the artists, and they get fidgety and depressed when they have to sell it. Cuts off the creative juices. So I build the pipeline to new customers so more customers can enjoy the cool stuff.
-
Affiliate Commissions: Since I, on the other hand, LOVE sharing good news about great stuff to help make peoples lives better, or discreetly putting out warnings when expectations are not met, I earn my livelihood by being this bridge between consumers to merchants, and explaining the needs of each to the other.
-
My Grandgifting Guarantee: I plan to support my recommendations with guarantees of good listening to your feedback, so if you have a problem with anything I recommend, please let me know at
