StoryBoards

I get really excited about amazing new ways to make our GrandKids feel very Super-Special.

I think it's cool that we can turn our kids into fairies or princes or pirates or fish with glitter gills.

My keyboard's a magic wand, and with a few clicks, I am the Fairy GrandMother who sends my G!Kid into a magical adventure...

Who figured out how to make me a book publisher?

coversWhen I stumbled upon FlattenMe personalized storybooks I was impressed by the artistic quality and amazed that a hardcover, four-color book is available that can transform my Grandchild into the lead character - with gorgeous illustrations where my Grandchild's face can be seamlessly imbedded - for $39.95.

But I was even more curious to know who was behind these creations, and why?  I love a good story, and sensed one behind the scenes of FlattenMe.

A Great Story: A Mompreneur invents personalized storybooks

The saga is a charming one.  Turns out that an alert Mom, Margo Redfern, was surprised by her daughter's strong reaction to a personalized story book her Dad, Joff, had made for her using some digital photos.

"Just watching her with it was amazing. She took that book everywhere and told everyone about it,"  Mom Redfern reported.

It was love at first sight. The little girl slept with it, ate with it, and took it on road trips. Seeing the intense connection her daughter had for a book where she saw herself as the leading character, Margo's entrepreneurial instinct was activated.

"And I just thought, there's something here, because 99 percent of kids don't have a dad who has the creativity and know-how to make a book like this."

glitterbook_1Not long ago, a single print of a full-color book would have cost thousands of dollars

Just five years ago, using traditional methods, the graphic design, typesetting, printing and binding would have been more than cost-prohibitive - it would have been crazy.

But the timing was right for Margo Redfern's dream. Digital cameras are so popular now that Kodak has stopped making film, so we're all 'on board' with digital imaging.  That means no more digging for negatives in crammed boxes and mailing them in.  We can find and upload a sweet pic, in seconds.

And Print-On-Demand technology that allows an efficient "print run of one" has given her concept wings.

Margo is one of my Super Heroes

iStock_000010215651XSmallPerhaps what I love most as a fellow (Grand)Mompreneur is Margo's courage to work with a virtual global talent team, focusing on maximizing value to us, instead of overhead on her head.  Her company beautifully illustrates how to execute a complicated production process, without leaving home.

So we benefit from talent like whimsical story writers in West Virginia, inspired 3D artists in Canada, and overseas cost-effective book printers, who can have your masterpiece delivered to your GrandChild's hands anywhere in the world, in 7-10 days.  All the while maintaining her home office lifestyle, where 4 kids and a Dad are her most important advisory board.

bookSo for a special child in your life who would treasure appearing as the lead character in their own custom-made adventure, Browse & Buy here for the storybooks and other variations at FlattenMe, and see what sparks your fancy.

There should be a Haredi market for this, but the books would have to be designed approriately. Like from scratch. (Hebrew version as well.)

I've seen books that could be personalized, but nothing of this quality! This is an awesome idea. I'm going to check it out immediately.
